    While you may have heard of the weight loss benefits of regular coffee, you may be unfamiliar with the surprising potency of green coffee as a weight-loss stimulant. The new discovery by Dr Vinson, professor at University of Scranton, was presented last month in the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society in San Diego, CA.

    What is Green Coffee?

    Green coffee is made from unroasted coffee beans; unlike traditional coffee, however, green coffee is extremely bitter. That’s sad news for coffee lovers, but the good news, according to professor Vinson’s announcement, is that you can reap substantial weight loss benefits from taking green coffee—just not in your coffee cup.

    To reap the health and weight-loss benefits of green coffee, the participants in Dr Vinson’s study took their java in a capsule form that contained ground green coffee beans. Green coffee is extremely bitter which is why it’s better to swallow it as a capsule than mix the powder with water and drink it.

    So, How Can You Reap the Weight Loss Benefits of Green Coffee?

    The first steps are, of course, maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly. (This should go without saying, right?) But, to kick-start your weight loss goals, you may want to consider adding green coffee extract to your daily routine. You can either take it in a pill form or just prepare it yourself by grinding some fresh green coffee beans with a grinder.

    How many would be enough to trigger weight loss? Well, in terms of the caffeine content, “the three pills that were used in the study daily will give you about half the caffeine of a cup of coffee. So, the caffeine level is low and it’s equivalent to half a cup of coffee” was Dr Vinson’s answer when asked how many coffee beans one should take to see a similar weight loss effect. So, that would be about 10 ground coffee beans 3 times a day.

    You can get green coffee bean extract from Amazon or other reputable health supplement sources. Dr. Vinson advises taking one capsule about thirty minutes before each meal, with a full glass of water to help with absorption.

    The key in Dr. Vinson’s study is that participants took a high dose of the coffee. Other similar studies showed minimal success with participants taking lower doses of the green coffee extract. Dr. Vinson’s study had participants take a higher total dose (1050 mg total), spread out over the day in three pills. Spreading the doses works in two major ways:

    • It breaks down the total dose into three manageable portions.
    • Taking more frequent, smaller doses help keeps the level of chlorogenic acid (and, in theory, your blood sugar and metabolic levels) stable throughout the day in the body—and that’s the basis of a sustained weight loss effect.

    So, if you want to experiment yourself, make sure you take it 3 times a day, too. As with any weight-loss routine, please be sure to check with your doctor before beginning.
